Hi @Carina Yes, microplastics are basically plastics, just in tiny size. I believe both plastics and microplastics pose the same danger to marine life, however they work in different ways.
Plastics are giving our marine animals direct harm. You can find many cases of turtles and whales die with plastics found in their stomach. Meanwhile, microplastics are more of a long-term harm as they accumulate first in animals' bodies and later distributed through the food chain. Later on these microplastics will generate certain health problems for the animals or even cause physical defects or anomaly for the said animals' offspring.
I think both plastics and microplastics are terribly concerning. Yet, you can help fight both by basically doing the same things: start consume less plastic (be zero waste) and if you still need plastic anyway, make sure you throw them into the trash can!
